We wandered along the foreshore into the town around 9am. Most of what is along the main drag is bookings for adventure tours - boats, trains, helicopters, sea planes etc, and restaurants and cafes.
One building of note was the old post and telegraph & HM customs building. Obviously dating from the 1800's as it sported a British coat of arms.
It is still in use as the post office.
After a coffee we bought Huon Pine souvenirs/gifts and picked up our tickets for the Gordon River Cruise we are doing tomorrow. We then headed for Macquarie Heads, as Strahan is actually situated further up the estuary.
The scenery was fabulous. All wild (one or two houses), but simultaneously serene. It was instant relaxation.
There was a lighthouse (below) in the estuary as well as one out on the heads.
Loved this yacht going, (under motor I guess) past the lighthouse headed for the open sea.

On the return drive we stopped at the Swan Basin picnic area. There were swans here in the water, and Ray said they were black swans, but I don't believe they are the same as the ones we get at home. they looked rather more brown to me and did not have the red beaks that I am accustomed to.
The views across the estuary here were just as stunning.......................
A slightly closer look at the swans.....
And a roadside stop further along the return trip was equally rewarding.....
Back in town we did the mundane things like buying bread and milk and petrol, which I might add cost 160.9 per litre!!! then we drove around to Regatta Point to see what wonders beheld us there. Not much in the way of scenery, but we did find the railway station.
We pre-paid a trip that would have started here while we were on the Spirit of Tasmania.......
We would have travelled in a carriage rather like this one.....
