Off to The Big Smoke

After a lovely breakfast of bacon & eggs in Queenstown we set off to Hobart

The hills around Queenstown would make for the most depressing landscape I have ever seen. They are almost completely barren.

.

This photo is a closeup of the color of much of the earth in the hills surrounding Queenstown. It is such an unbelievable contrast to what we saw from the train, which also originated in Queenstown

The road, for the most part, was very windy. These photos were taken from a lookout a couple of kilometres out of town.

About 40km after leaving Queenstown, we came to Nelson Falls. The difference in landscape is truly flabbergasting!!!!

We were again in rain forest. Absolutely stunning!!

And the falls at the end were worth the walk.......

and were very special in their own right!  - what a novel idea - wishing waterfall!!

Ray did the wishing, but he didn't tell me what he wished for - I probably don't really want to know.

We did visit one other interesting place on the way to Hobart.
It was called The Wall in the Wilderness.

An artist has carved, from wood panels, a wall of figures depicting the history of the area. These two dimensional figures of men, with their tools, and animals must be seen to be believed. What an amazingly talented artist. The wall is about 20 metres long.
He also has other carvings/sculptures dotted around in the gallery and there were several of work men's gloves
